Supplemental Terms for SLM Address Standardization Service
These supplemental terms ("Address Standardization Terms") for the SLM Address Standardization service ("Address Standardization Service") apply when You use Share Local Media's address standardization functionality. These Address Standardization Terms supplement our Terms of Use. The Terms of Use still apply fully except where these Address Standardization Terms say something different. Any capitalized terms we don't define here mean the same as they do in our Terms of Use. If anything in these Address Standardization Terms conflicts with our Terms of Use, these Address Standardization Terms will be the ones to follow.
What the Address Standardization Service Does
The Address Standardization Service allows you to verify and standardize addresses You already have from your normal business activities. We maintain and use the most current authorized databases to ensure the accuracy of address validation and standardization.
How You Can Use the Address Standardization Service
- Internal Business Use Only: You may use the Address Standardization Service solely for Your internal business purposes, such as validating addresses to support shipping, mailing, and customer communications.
- Address Verification and Updating: You may only submit addresses that You already have from Your normal business activities before using this Service. The Address Standardization Service cannot be used to acquire or learn of new addresses not already known to You.
Where You Can Use the Address Standardization Service
- United States Use Only: some text
- The Address Standardization Service must be accessed and used only within the United States and its territories.
- Once Your addresses are standardized, You may use them worldwide.
- The data processed by this Address Standardization Service should relate solely to addresses located in the United States and its territories.
What You Can't Do with the Address Standardization Service
The following actions are strictly prohibited:
- Acquisition of New Addresses: You may not use this Address Standardization Service to generate or acquire new addresses. The Address Standardization Service is intended only to verify addresses that You already have.
- Bulk Extraction: You may not extract or try to extract large numbers of addresses to make a new database or directory. Any attempt to do so may result in immediate suspension or termination of Your access.
- Resale or Redistribution: You cannot sell or share the Address Standardization Service, or any data that comes from using it, with other companies or people outside your organization. You must only use the data within Your own business.
When and Why We May Stop Processing
- We may suspend or terminate Your access to the Address Standardization Service if we detect: some text
- Attempts to acquire new addresses
- Unauthorized sharing or resale of data
- Other misuse of the Address Standardization Service
- If Your access is terminated: some text
- You must immediately stop using the Address StandardizationService
- You may continue to use any properly validated addresses obtained before termination for Your internal business purposes
How to Keep Information Secure
To maintain security and compliance:
- Service and Data Protection: You must take reasonable steps to protect any standardized address data from unauthorized access or disclosure.
Who Owns What and What to Keep Confidential.
- The Address Standardization Service contains in whole or in part confidential and proprietary property of the United States Postal Service subject to the protection of copyright and other law, under license. All rights reserved.
- The following trademarks are owned by the United States Postal Service® and used with permission: CASS™ DPV® IMB® USPS®. You do not acquire any ownership rights in these trademarks through your use of our Address Standardization Services. You may not use any USPS trademarks without explicit written permission from the USPS.
- The Address Standardization Service and all related technology and features not owned by USPS are owned by Share Local Media and protected by law.
- You keep ownership of Your original address information, but the standardized addresses contain confidential information that is protected by law.
- You may use the validated addresses within Your organization and for Your permitted business purposes, but You must keep them confidential.
How Your Access May End and What Happens Next
We reserve the right to modify or stop the Address Standardization Service at any time, including if we are unable to continue providing it due to our licensors or the law. We will notify you of material changes or discontinuation.
If Your access to the Address Standardization Service ends for any reason:
- You may continue to use any properly validated addresses obtained through the Address Standardization Service before termination for Your internal business purposes
What are Legal Statements You Should Know
- Address information is protected under 39 U.S.C. § 412.
- You are solely responsible for ensuring that Your use of the Address Standardization Service and any validated addresses complies with all applicable laws and regulations, including those relating to privacy, data protection, and direct marketing.
- Share Local Media is a non-exclusive licensee of the United States Postal Service®. The price for this Address Standardization Service is neither established, controlled, nor approved by the United States Postal Service®.
